If women ruled the world, it would be awash in pink—women in pink boas at a vigil here, chanting in the streets in pink beehive wigs there, carrying pink umbrellas, donning pink body paint, waving pink banners—women in pink you-name-its all over the place.
This isn’t your mom’s pink. It isn’t about Barbie and fluff or playing nice. This pink is about power and action. It’s about women coming together from all parts of the country and the world, recognizing that fear-mongering and Code Orange terrorist alerts and duct tape don’t make us one bit safer. It’s about seeing outside ourselves, recognizing our interconnectedness, and tapping into our compassion. It’s about knowing “they” are “we” and the only way to rule the world is to share its wealth and beauty equally—and enough of this whoever-has-the-gold-makes-the-rules stuff.
It’s knowing that in standing up for what’s right, every now and then you have to get a little outrageous—shake things up a bit. It’s understanding that in this mess of a world we live in, sometimes you just gotta find the joy and the fun.
It’s realizing there are already a whole mess of women out there right this minute who totally “rule” and are calling for a CODEPINK alert for peace and justice! You rule, too. So what are you waiting for? Throw on some powerful pink clothes and join us.
A New Kind of Alert
CODEPINK uses inventive techniques to get their message out to the public, such as presenting those who are not doing their jobs representing the people—from congresspersons to the media—with pink slips (women’s lingerie), demanding they do their jobs or the people will “fire” them (www.codepinkµpeace.org.).
